The accident took place at around 7.28 pm near a hotel in the Pachpakhadi area of Naupada, according to the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC)
Officials said that a test-drive vehicle went out of control while being driven on the road
The car first hit an auto-rickshaw and two parked two-wheelers before plunging into a construction pit about 20 feet deep that had been dug for a building project
Local residents quickly stepped in and rescued the occupants before emergency teams arrived at the scene
The officials said that the airbags deployed during the crash, which helped reduce the impact and likely prevented more serious injuries to the passengers
