The builder, Surendra Sumatilal Shah, a resident of Tilak Road, died on the spot.

Shah lay in a pool of blood for almost two hours before he was taken to hospital. He was declared "brought dead" by the doctors of YCM hospital.

"Shah was an owner of a city-based construction company and on Wednesday, he had come to one of his sites, Bhaktidham near Varun Hotel in Kasarwadi, and after completing his work at the office, he came out of the site and started approaching his car. While he was walking, some unidentified assailants attacked him with a sharp weapon and murdered him," said Senior Police Inspector Sudhir Aspat of the Bhosari police station.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone III) Sanjay Shinde said, "We suspect the attack was executed out of some dispute related to the land, but it is very difficult to come to a conclusion right now."

The police are now checking Shah's mobile phone call details.
