Six persons were arrested for allegedly murdering their 72-year-old kin over a property dispute in Maharashtra's Beed district, a police official said on Monday, reported the PTI.
The deceased was identified as Chhabu Devkar, a resident of Loni (Syedmeer) in Ashti tehsil in Beed.
He died after he was attacked on Saturday evening with a sickle and iron rods by his three nephews and their wives, the Ambhora police station official said.
"The family members have been embroiled in a boundary wall and pipeline dispute for several days. One such argument ended in a fatal attack on Devkar. He sustained serious injuries in the incident. Devkar was rushed to the hospital Ahilyanagar on Sunday afternoon where he died. His son was also assaulted during the attack. The matter is further being investigated," the official said, according to the PTI.
The police registered a case and arrested six people in the matter, police official said.
Those arrested in the case were identified as Ramdas Devkar, Rahul Devkar, and Santosh Devkar, along with their wives Kavita Devkar, Manisha Devkar , and Lata Devkar, he added, the news agency reported.
Meanwhile, in an another incident, a 36-year-old farmer was reportedly mauled to death by a leopard in a village in Beed district, the police officials said on Monday, reported the PTI.
The incident occurred in the Bavi-Darewadi area in Ashti tehsil on Sunday when the victim had taken his cattle for grazing, they said.
Rajendra Vishwanath Golhar, a resident of Bavi village, had gone to his farm to graze his cattle in the morning and failed to return home, an official said.
Suspecting a leopard attack, villagers alerted the forest department and local authorities, and a search operation was launched, he said.
Golhar's half-eaten body was found in the fields, confirming that he was attacked by a leopard, range forest officer Amol Munde said, adding that the post-mortem report is awaited.
The police and forest authorities have urged residents to avoid venturing out alone after dark and have initiated steps to increase patrolling and awareness campaigns across nearly 15 surrounding villages.
