Alleging that the Election Commission was biased against her, danseuse Mallika Sarabhai, who is contesting the Lok Sabha elections as an independent from Gandhinagar, yesterday said she was being watched like a hawk by EC officials.
"Being an independent candidate everything is against us. The EC is against us. Every time I open my mouth I am told that I am breaking the code of conduct," said Sarabhai.
"They (EC) are watching me like a hawk. The other day when I was going door-to-door in Sabarmati (part of her constituency), a couple of EC officials came there and told me that I should stop as I did not have permission to go door-to-door," she said.
Code of conduct
"The big political parties (Congress and BJP) are breaking the code of conduct everyday, but nothing is done to them. Why are the rules different for them and us? It should be the same. They (EC) are acting in a biased manner," Sarabhai, who is contesting against L K Advani, said.
Sarabhai said that she has been running from pillar to post since the last 10 days for permission to use a vehicle for campaigning, but is still to receive it.
