Big promises

"I was assured a ticket from my ward, and in the new list it is changed to general," said M B Adinaryana, an SC candidate contesting from Hosahalli. "Now they are saying the list was only temporary."

The Other Side

A senior BJP leader, who is not happy with the way his party has handled the issue, said, "It is just a dummy list and they are doing this just to escape the contempt case. They are still trying to postpone the polls and the list is just to avert the legal stick."
P R Ramesh, Congress leader and former Mayor, who has waged an unrelenting legal war demanding the civic polls, said, "Ashoka's statement amounts to contempt of court and we will bring this to SC's notice."

The state government had to submit the reservation list on or before 20th February, as per the high court order, while it was bound to conduct the polls on 30 March.

Contempt of court

Although, the government has filed a special leave petition (PIL) in the Supreme Court questioning the high court's order, it faces contempt of court. This is because it has failed to meet the deadline on the reservation list, and the SC is yet to say anything on the issue. To avert this, the government has reportedly prepared a reservation list which is not perfect, but would notify it on Monday, in case the SC doesn't stay the HC's verdict.u00a0

Even as R Ashoka and Katta Subramanya Naidu, in-charge ministers for Bangalore city, are still trying to postpone the polls, the state party unit President K S Eswarappa is keen on conducting the polls in time. "The party reputation is on the line, and I have made it clear to the CM. I hope the polls will be held as per the court order," said Eswarappa.
