A couple watching a movie at Central Talkies in Mangalore escaped the moral police on Monday thanks to quick preventive action by the police department.

On a 'tip-off', moral cops belonging to the Sri Rama Sene had planned to 'question' the couple who were watching the comedy, Venkata in Sankata, in the movie hall near Hampanakatte. They were under the impression that the couple belonged to different religions though the police later clarified that they did not.

The Sene members waited outside the theatre for the show to end so that they could interrogate the couple concerned but Mangalore North police inspector Umesh Shet, who deputed constables inside the theatre, ensured that the two were safely taken to the police station.

Shet said they took steps to control the situation after they received information that there was trouble brewing outside the theatre.u00a0
