The Allahabad High Court has rejected a petition filed against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati seeking an investigation into the source of funding for a multi-crore garland she was presented with by her party.

Mayawati was presented with a garland worth Rs 2 crore and made up entirely of Rs 1000 notes during a rally to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Bahujan Samaj Party in Lucknow on March 15.

Two days later, a defiant BSP gifted another garland made up of currency notes worth Rs 18 lakh to her.

The Income Tax department is reportedly investigating the party for the garlands.
