Andheri's new delivery chain rates high on quantity but low on taste
Someone famous once said, "When it comes to Chinese food, I have always operated under the policy that the
less known about the preparation, the better." But the menu of self-proclaimed "Mumbai's largest Chinese take-away and delivery chain", Mr Chow's, informs you that it cooks all your food in low cholesterol oil, and with the "freshest" of vegetables and imported goods.
It also reads that at your command, they will eliminate Ajinomoto from your meal. Maybe they should inform customers about this detail when they place the order on the phone rather than have to read it on the menu when their order arrives.
A meal without zing: We ordered the Chicken Spinach Soup (Rs 90) and the Chicken Pepper Salt (Rs 160). It was only after adding a hefty dose of Tabasco sauce, that we were able to enjoy the bland preparation. The chicken, although tasty looking, was a flavourless starter. For main course, we tried the Hongkong Chicken (Rs 170), Diced Vegetables in Red Pepper Sauce (Rs 140) and paired it with Vegetable Hakka Noodles (Rs 110) and Fried Rice (Rs 110).
Both the chicken and veggie dishes shared a similar problem the gravies didn't blend in. Instead of taking on the flavour, the raw materials tasted bland, undercooked and detached from the broth.
Service: The delivery was speedy, and helpings were generous. If only quantity could make up for quality.
