The promos for Aisha look unapologetically 'chick-flick' with their frothy colours, soundtrack and a long-limbed good-looking lead couple. "Toh kya yeh humaari pehli date hai?" asks a tall French-bearded gent in Americanised Hindi, and Sonam Kapoor leans in involuntarily. We do too; there's something about this guy, though we know he's not going to end up with her. Abhay Deol's "It's a 16-pack" dig at his own abs, the uncool friend (Amrita Puri) commenting on a jockey's trousers? We already like this desi version of Emma.
It's a grave subject and yet the promo of Peepli Live uses a vulgar pink, and looks every inch the superb black comedy that it promises to be. The desperate hopelessness etched on the faces of Omkar Das Manikpuri and Raghuvir Yadav as they debate who ought to commit suicide, makes you laugh, but is pitiful too. As for the other teaser with a TV reporter poking fun at producer Aamir Khan for wanting to make such a movie, it's different. Interesting.
We Are Family looks every inch a Karan Johar factory product. Its leading ladies and man are beautifully smoothed, curled and dolled up. The children are gorgeous too. But something doesn't quite fit. Stepmom wasn't a comedy but this looks like one. And wasn't Julia Roberts a cool photographer in the original? Kareena Kapoor is a model here. That said, we're still excited about the unusual Arjun Rampal-Kajol pairing. Hope the desi version has a different end.
