Delhi police has decided to beef up security to avoid further terror attacks. After the email which was received by media houses, in which terrorists mentioned that their next target will be shopping malls and markets, Delhi police has decided to step up security in the Capital city. With the help of traffic police, police has decided to check all private vehicles and DTC buses in the respective areas of each district.

The decision was taken after the high intensity blast outside Delhi High Court on Wednesday, September 7. A meeting was held on Saturday and Sunday between Delhi Commissioner of Police BK Gupta and southern range Deputy Commissioner of Police in this regard.

On alert
"This routine checking will continue till the festive month of Diwali. Delhi traffic personnel and local beat constables will be checking private vehicles as well as DTC and private buses along with the baggage of passengers," said a senior police official.

About 7,000 motorcycles have been checked since Sept 8, the maximum being in the western range of the Capital (1,946). On Sunday alone, about 1,365 motorcycles were checked. According to police officials, the motive behind this checking is only to ensure people's security, instead of challenging them.

A large number of civil defence personnel will also join Delhi police to conduct checking at vulnerable places such as shopping complexes, malls, crowded markets and also carry out tenant verification.
