Bank employee beaten up; receives 35 stitches to his head

Was the glass half-empty or half-full? No one knows, but it did contribute to 42-year-old Suresh Chandra Sharma being brutally beaten up. The incident took place at Central Bank's Connaught Place branch.

Helping hazard: Sharma was thrashed by a man who asked for water


On the night of September 24, Sharma, the bank's caretaker, was having a siesta after dinner when there was a knock on the door. On opening it he found a youth, about 25 years old, wearing jeans and t-shirt and seemingly expensive footwear.

The stranger asked Sharma for a glass of water. When Sharma went inside the kitchen, the youth followed him and attacked him with a wooden stick. He later received 35 stitches to his head.

"I was perturbed when I found that he had followed me to the kitchen. He took out a wooden stick and started beating me on the head. He hit me around 35 to 40 times. I shouted for help hearing which the chief manager of the bank, M P Singh, who lives on the second floor, rushed to my help, shouting.

Hearing his voice the attacker fled from the spot. I collapsed on the floor and later found myself in a hospital bed," said Sharma.Meanwhile, a senior police official said a case has been registered in this respect and the matter was being investigated.

Sharma has been working with the bank for past 12 years. He said that previously people who parked their vehicles below the building used to visit his flat for water and he had never denied
anybody.
