Congress on September 24 held the CWC meeting in Patna ahead of Bihar elections. In view of strengthening their hold across the state before the assembly elections, the CWC meeting in Patna was attended by various senior leaders such as LoP Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge and others. Launching a frontal attack on the BJP, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, during the meeting, accused the BJP of orchestrating âvote chori' and communal polarisation.
The Congress chief further asserted that the Bihar Assembly elections would mark the beginning of the end of the Modi government's "corrupt rule."
As reported by news agency PTI, during the ongoing Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Patna, Mallikarjun Kharge also made an apparent reference to US President Donald Trump's recent statements and actions and took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Congress chief Kharge said, "Our problems at the international level are the result of the diplomatic failure of Narendra Modi and his government. The very friends whom the prime minister boasts about as 'my friends' are today putting India in numerous troubles," as cited by news agency PTI.
Kharge further added that, "Today, when our voter list is being officially tampered with, it is essential that we hold our extended CWC meeting in Bihar, the mother of democracy, and reaffirm our pledge to protect this country's democracy and Constitution."
Putting light on the allegations of âvote chori' on the BJP along with the Election Commission, Kharge said serious questions are being raised today about the fairness and transparency of the Election Commission itself.
Instead of answering questions on the revelations from various states, the Election Commission is demanding affidavits from us, Congress chief Kharge said.
While asserting about the alleged âvote chori', Mallikarjun Kharge also said, "Following the example of Bihar, a conspiracy is now being hatched across the country to remove the votes of millions of people," as cited by news agency PTI.
Kharge, during the Congress Working Committee meeting, also highlighted the 'Voter Adhikar Yatra', which raised awareness among the people of Bihar.
While praising the âVoter Adhikar Yatra', Kharge said that India is grappling with many problems. These problems include economic slowdown, unemployment, social polarisation, and the targeting and weakening of autonomous constitutional institutions, reported PTI.
Slamming the BJP, Kharge further stated that the internal shift within the NDA alliance paints the picture of how the ruling party is so uncertain about the upcoming elections.
Some of the senior-most leaders from Congress met in Patna on Wednesday for the party's first working committee meeting in Bihar in the post-Independence era. The meeting was organised deliberately to create a significant presence of Congress across the state ahead of the assembly polls that are likely to be held in November.
