Bihar election 2025: Samrat Choudhary named as BJP legislative leader, Nitish likely to be the next CM

Ahead of the Bihar assembly's oath ceremony, senior BJP leader Samrat Choudhary on Wednesday was named its legislature party leader. The announcement of Choudhary being given this responsibility was made during a meeting of newly elected MLAs in Bihar's Patna on Wednesday, UP Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya said.

As reported by news agency PTI, the newly elected MLAs also chose Vijay Kumar Sinha as deputy leader of the BJP's legislature party, he said.

The Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Maurya, who was present in the meeting, said, "Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha were elected as the leader and deputy leader of the BJP's legislature party, respectively," as quoted by PTI.

While Choudhary won from the Tarapur assembly seat, Sinha retained the Lakhisarai constituency in the recently concluded assembly polls. As per the reports, the new government will be formed on Thursday, November 20.

Nitish to be elected as NDA leader in Bihar

JD(U) supremo Nitish Kumar is set to be elected as the leader of the NDA in Bihar on Wednesday, ahead of the formation of the new government under his leadership in the state on November 20, a party leader said.

As per news agency PTI, Nitish Kumar will take oath as Bihar CM for a record 10th time at Patna's historic Gandhi Maidan on Thursday and will be first elected as leader of the JD(U) legislature party and then the leader of the NDA during a meeting of the constituents of the five-party alliance, he said.

Talking to the media on Wednesday, JD(U) working national president Sanjay Jha asserted, "Nitish Kumar will be first elected as leader of our legislature party on Wednesday. After that, he will be elected as NDA leader by the newly elected MLAs of all alliance partners," reported PTI.

Furthermore, JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar will meet Governor Arif Mohammad Khan in the evening, requesting him to initiate the process for the formation of the new government.

The NDA stormed back to power in Bihar, winning 202 seats in the 243-member assembly, with BJP bagging 89, JD(U) 85, LJP(RV) 19, HAM 5 and RLM 4.
