CJP accuses Centre of backtracking on promises to youth, plans next move

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has raised concerns over what it described as the Central Government's failure to fulfil commitments made to the country's youth, including assurances concerning protest-related FIRs and compensation for families of deceased NEET victims.

The party had called off its nationwide agitation on July 25 following the commitments it said were made by the government.

CJP questions FIR-related commitments

In a statement issued on Sunday, the CJP referred to proceedings in the Supreme Court on August 18, when the Union Government was asked to provide a comprehensive list of FIRs registered against students and protesters across the country.

According to the party, providing the list would have allowed the Supreme Court to consider using its powers under Article 142 of the Constitution to address the cases simultaneously.

The CJP alleged that the government did not commit to submitting the complete list.

Party threatens fresh course of action

At a subsequent press conference, CJP Co-Convener Saurav Das and Legal Affairs Lead Ratna Singh alleged that the government was attempting to backtrack on assurances given following the withdrawal of the earlier agitation.

The party reiterated its demands for the withdrawal of FIRs linked to protests, an end to punitive action against peaceful protesters and written assurances concerning compensation for families of those who died in connection with the NEET issue.

The CJP said its earlier agitation had contributed to the resignation of former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, but maintained that it would continue pursuing the commitments made to young people.

The party's National Working Committee is scheduled to meet on August 24 to decide its next steps.

CJP raises Jaipur school incident

Meanwhile, the CJP said it was continuing its ‘School Thik Karo' initiative across the country.

CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka also demanded the arrest of people allegedly involved in violence during party workers' visit to a government school in Rampura-Kanwarpura village in Jaipur.

Ranka called on the Rajasthan government to act on the FIRs registered in connection with the incident and sought action against those accused of allegedly engaging in violence or provoking the confrontation.

He also said the CJP was prepared to face legal action if evidence was found against any of its own workers.
