The decision was taken after Railway Board Chairperson Vinay Mittal visited the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus on Saturday.

CR officials said the new system will not only detect fire and alert the control room, but will implement measures to control the fire.

"This will be a fire alarm and suppression system, wherein gas will be emitted to extinguish sparks and fire," a CR said.

CR General Manager Subodh Jain confirmed that the Rs 46 lakh system would be installed at Kurla (Phase I) and CST (Phase II), respectively.

"We have called tenders and are hoping that the system will be installed in the next three months," another official said.

CR officials said the signal cabin at CST was equally important, as it controlled signals allowing entry and exit of trains to and from the station.u00a0
