In a bid to control cyber crime, Pune police plans to go hi-tech; Cyber Cell to spend Rs 1.5 crore on gadgetsIN ORDER to thawart the nefarious plans of hackers and foil their bid to intrude cyber space, the cyber cell of Pune city police commissionerate is planning to go hi-tech soon. The cyber cell has sent a proposal to the home department for its approval to purchase latest gadgets worth Rs 1.50 crore.

And after the terror attacks on Mumbai and increasing rate of cyber crime, the police are confident that government will grant them the required fund for modernising the cyber cell.
DCP Rajendra Dahale of cyber cell, said, "We need highly sophisticated forensic software for scanning the hard disks being used by the criminals."
He added that such software would help them get access to the information concealed in hard disks. The cyber cell had received about 207 complaints in 2008 as compared to 99 complaints that were lodged in 2007.
RenovationAlso, the police have started renovating the entire cell with the help of Public Works Department. According to Dahale, Pune police cyber cell is the third in the state followed by Mumbai and Thane that has been revamped.

"We are seeking help from major IT companies in the city as Pune is the IT hub of the state," he said.
The IT professionals are helping the cyber cell to solve and detect cases in which money is involved.

The department of information technology of the government of India has sponsored the entire programme where major issues like increasing threats to cyber space, E-mail crimes, crimes related to internet banking etc will be discussed.
