Mumbai International Airport Customs intercepted an Ethiopian national on Saturday

The vigilant dog squad of Mumbai Airport Customs intercepted a kg of heroin worth Rs 1 crore, concealed in chocolates, from an Ethiopian national yesterday.

The dog squad headed by Sameer Wankhede, deputy commissioner, Air Intelligence Unit (AIU), intercepted Iyonda Elizabeth, who was travelling back to Addis Ababa on an Ethiopian Air flight, at the customs screening centre at 4.30 am.

"When we opened her bag it was full of chocolates. However, since we have intercepted smuggling consignments concealed in chocolates in the past, we started removing the wrappers. The drugs were concealed below two layers of packets," said a Customs official on condition of anonymity.

Elizabeth, who is booked under sections of the Indian Customs Act and Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic substances (NDPS) Act, accepted her crime in her statement to the Customs. She is being detained for further investigation.u00a0
