A court in Nashik on Saturday deferred the hearing on the bail application of Nida Khan, an accused in the alleged sexual harassment and forced religious conversion case at Tata Consultancy Services' (TCS) Nashik unit, to June 12.
Additional Sessions Judge KG Joshi (Nashik Road) adjourned the matter and scheduled the next hearing for June 12. The bail pleas filed by co-accused Danish Sheikh and Tausif Attar will also be heard on the same day, news agency PTI reported.
Khan was arrested from Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and remanded in judicial custody on May 11. Her custody was later extended, and her bail plea was listed for hearing on Saturday.
The development comes a day after the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case filed its second charge sheet before a Nashik court.
According to officials, the latest charge sheet pertains to eight first information reports (FIRs) registered at Mumbai Naka Police Station under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The accused named in the charge sheet include Raza Rafiq Memon, Shahrukh Husain Shaukat Qureshi, Ashwini Ashok Chainani, Attar, Shafi Bhikan Sheikh, Danish Sheikh and Khan, among others.
On May 22, the SIT had filed a 1,500-page charge sheet in the case registered at Deolali Camp Police Station against Danish Sheikh, Attar, Khan and Matin Majid Patel under the BNS and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The Maharashtra government constituted the SIT after several women employees at the Nashik unit of the IT major alleged exploitation, attempts at forced religious conversion, hurting of religious sentiments, molestation and mental harassment.
According to the FIRs, some complainants alleged that employees were targeted through a WhatsApp group and pressured to pray, consume non-vegetarian food and adopt certain religious practices. Some women also claimed they were asked to alter their dietary habits and follow specific religious customs.
Khan has been accused of targeting employees through the WhatsApp group and allegedly advising women employees to dress and behave in accordance with Islamic traditions.
The accused named across the cases are currently in judicial custody.
TCS had stated that it follows a zero-tolerance policy towards harassment and coercion of any form. The company has also said that employees allegedly involved in the matter have been suspended.
