A massive fire broke out at a factory near Mushedpur-Khurampur village in Gurugram shortly after midnight on Sunday, engulfing the entire unit and triggering a major firefighting operation, officials said.
The blaze which erupted at Om Sairam Industry around 1.40 am, was brought under control after nearly eight hours with the help of eight fire engines deployed from different parts of the district, a fire official said.
Fire brigade teams rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the incident and launched firefighting and rescue operations.
According to the fire control room, personnel from the Pataudi Fire Station were first to reach the site. Given the intensity of the blaze, additional fire tenders were dispatched from Manesar, Bhim Nagar, Sector 37 and Sector 29 fire stations.
Officials said it was initially difficult to assess the scale of the fire because of poor visibility during the night. However, the sight of the flames and thick smoke prompted authorities to seek reinforcements immediately.
No casualties have been reported so far, officials said.
Authorities believe the absence of workers inside the factory at the time of the incident helped avert a major loss of life.
Fire and police officials said a search operation would be launched inside the factory after the fire is completely extinguished and cooling operations are completed.
"Only after the search operation will it be clear whether anyone is trapped under the debris," they said.
