Espionage racket: Accused to remain in police custody till Dec 10

New Delhi: A Delhi court yesterday extended the police custody of Kafaitullah Khan till December 10. Khan was arrested for allegedly spying for Pakistan's intelligence agency ISI. The 44-year-old was produced before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sanjay Khanagwal after expiry of his police remand and the crime branch of Delhi Police sought his custodial interrogation, saying it was needed to unearth the larger conspiracy.

The police told the court that Khan, who was working as an assistant librarian in a high school in Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir, was in regular touch with a Pakistan-based ISI operative named Faisal and he used to pass sensitive information to him.
On being asked by the court regarding the money paid to Khan in lieu of supplying the documents, the police said that he used to get R40,000 to R60,000 depending on the nature of the information.

The police also said that various sensitive documents have been recovered from Khan and he was required to be confronted with the arrested co-accused Abdul Rasheed, a BSF head constable, in this regard.
