Rotary Club, in association with the National Burns Centre, is organising the event Operation Restore in Airoli on Nov 9-10

Operation Restore, a free surgical camp for burns victims is in the offing in Navi Mumbai. Under the banner of Rotary District 3140, and in association with the National Burns Centre, Airoli, the camp will cater to 20 patients of any age, who have suffered burn injuries.

Operation Restore has been successfully conducted for the last four years, in which complete treatment of the patient would be done --right from pre-operative screening stage to post-operative care.

The patients are surgically treated to correct functional, non-cosmetic deformities and contractures. The camp will help them treat disabilities and improve their quality of life.

Vishnu Kamat, director of community services of Rotary Club of Deonar said, "Our aim is to specially cater to the underprivileged who cannot afford to treat their burn injuries because it is very expensive. Over 100 patients have benefited from the camp."

According to Kamat, the camp was initially conducted only once a year. But it was then realised that some patients needed a follow-up, for which they would have to wait for an entire year. The body just finished a camp in June, and plans to have one in March 2014.

The burn deformity surgery will be conducted by a team of doctors, which includes surgeons, anaesthesiologists and nurses.

However, patients will be chosen for the camp after an initial screening process to gauge whether or not they are fit for surgery.

The screening is being done every Tuesday and Friday between 1 pm and 3 pm at the National Burns Centre, in Sector-13, Airoli. Patients can directly approach the centre and no prior appointment is required.

The surgery is generally known to take an hour and post the surgery, accommodation for the patient and the accompanying person will also be taken of.
