After heavy rains lashed parts of Jammu and Kashmir, the weather situation has now turned to a different scenario altogether. As reported by news agency PTI, fresh snowfall blanketed several famous tourist resorts and higher reaches in Kashmir. Officials, while addressing the beautiful weather in Kashmir, said that the plains were lashed with rains followed by snowfall.

The wet weather has led to a sharp drop in day temperatures across the valley. Regions across Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonamarg, Aru Valley, Chandanwari and Kokernag were among the places that received snowfall, reported PTI.

As per the officials, the other places that received fresh snowfall were Peer Ki Gali on the Mughal Road in Shopian district and Zojila Pass along the Srinagar-Leh national highway.

The officials further said that fresh snowfall was reported from other areas in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, including Sinthan Top in Anantnag district, Affarwat in Gulmarg, and Razdan Pass in Gurez valley.

They also added that "light to moderate rainfall was witnessed in the plains of Kashmir, including Srinagar city," as cited by news agency PTI.

While the weather across the state seemed extremely pleasant, officials said that the day temperature in the valley dipped by 13 degrees, with the city recording a maximum of 12.5 degrees Celsius on Monday, compared to the normal of 25.5 degrees Celsius.

Moreover, the Meteorological Department has also forecast light to moderate rain, with light snowfall in the higher reaches, till Tuesday afternoon.

Also, the weather officials further added that the weather across the various districts is likely to improve afterwards.

Earlier in September, Jammu recorded massive rainfall that literally paused the lives of the citizens. Moreover, the flood-like situations across various districts, such as Doda and Raesi, disrupted life and caused massive infrastructural damage. Due to intense weather and landslides, the Jammu-Pathankot highway bridge was also damaged.

Amid the concerning situation across the state, SDRF rescued 45 students from flooded IIIM hostels. While the Indian Army also evacuated several people trapped in the valley, the officials also organised a flood-relief camp to ensure quick rehabilitation.
