Oil marketing companies on Friday announced a hike of Rs 3 per litre in petrol and diesel prices, pushing fuel rates higher across major metro cities amid rising global energy costs linked to the ongoing West Asia conflict.
The latest increase, however, is only a fraction of the hike that would have been required to fully offset the sharp surge in international crude oil prices.
At a fuel station in Mumbai, consumers voiced frustration over the additional financial burden.
"Petrol was already around Rs 103 per litre, and now it has gone up by another Rs 3. Salaries are not increasing, but expenses continue to rise. I use petrol daily for work and family needs, so we have no option," a commuter said.
Many motorists said the increase would significantly impact monthly household budgets, especially for families dependent on two-wheelers and private vehicles for daily travel.
In Kolkata, some consumers acknowledged the impact of global developments on fuel prices.
"People are definitely facing difficulties, but we also have to understand the current international situation. Every country is dependent on global markets to some extent," said a consumer, Amit Upadhayay.
He expressed hope that authorities would eventually take measures to control fuel prices once global conditions stabilise.
Fuel stations across Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir witnessed long queues as residents rushed to fill their tanks following the announcement of the price hike.
In Ghaziabad, some consumers defended the increase, citing international tensions and rising oil prices globally.
"Due to the war situation, a Rs 3 increase is not a major issue. In many countries, fuel prices have increased by Rs 10 to Rs 15. Compared to that, India's rise is relatively lower," a consumer said.
In Hyderabad, petrol prices rose to Rs 110.89 per litre, while diesel climbed to Rs 98.96 per litre following the revision.
Meanwhile, in Bhopal, petrol prices increased to Rs 109.82 per litre and diesel to Rs 94.98 per litre.
Visuals from fuel stations in both cities showed motorists continuing to queue up amid concerns over further hikes.
