Electricity supply has been introduced in Tumarkothi village in Gadchiroli district, marking a significant step in improving access to basic infrastructure in one of the region's most remote and underdeveloped areas. The initiative was implemented on April 27 through coordination between the district police and the Maharashtra State Electricity Board.
Tumarkothi, located in the Hedri subdivision, has long faced challenges due to its difficult terrain, limited connectivity, and security concerns linked to its location in a Maoist-affected zone. Officials said the electrification is expected to improve living conditions and support essential services in the village.
The establishment of a police station in Tumarkothi on December 19, 2025, is seen as a turning point for the village. Authorities noted that the presence of security forces helped facilitate development activities that had previously been difficult to implement.
Despite logistical and security challenges, the police coordinated with various departments to enable the rollout of electricity infrastructure.
With electricity now available, residents are expected to benefit from improved lighting, access to drinking water systems, and better conditions for students. As part of the initiative, police personnel distributed 100 electric bulbs, holders, and wiring materials to households.
Officials said the move is likely to have a positive impact on education, healthcare access, and overall quality of life in the village.
In recent months, several infrastructure projects have been undertaken in the area. Road connectivity along the Markanar-Aheri route was improved in July 2025. On March 17, 2026, bus services were introduced between Tumarkothi and Aheri for the first time since Independence, with support from the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation.
Earlier, a health camp conducted on February 28, 2026, provided medical services to over 200 residents.
Authorities said broader efforts are underway to improve connectivity and infrastructure across Gadchiroli district. Under police protection, 559 mobile towers have been installed, while 424 kilometres of roads and 65 bridges have been constructed.
Officials believe these measures have contributed to strengthening trust between local communities and the administration, while gradually integrating remote villages into the wider development framework.
The initiative was carried out under the supervision of Superintendent of Police M. Ramesh, along with senior officers including Additional Superintendents of Police Kartik Madira and Gokul Raj, Deputy Superintendent Vishal Nagargoje, and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Yogesh Ranjankar.
Operational support was provided by personnel from the CRPF 191 Battalion, officers at Tumarkothi Police Station, and officials from the electricity department.
