Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's office on Friday strongly denied that the government had paid the travel and medical bills of UPA chief Sonia Gandhi, describing the Rs 1,880-crore figure as untrue and misleading.

The PMO clarification came in the backdrop of Gujarat CM Narendra Modi raising the issue of Gandhi's foreign travel since 2004.

The PMO on Twitter, said the government had not borne any expenses of the UPA chairperson's medical treatment abroad.
