The Centre is set to pursue an ambitious legislative agenda during the Eight Session of the 18th Lok Sabha, with plans to introduce five new bills while prioritising the passage of two pending legislations, including the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026. The Monsoon Session of Parliament is scheduled to run from July 20 to August 13.
Among the government's top priorities is the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, which was introduced earlier this year. The Centre is also expected to take up the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill, 2025, introduced in the Lok Sabha in December last year and later referred to a joint Committee for detailed examination.
The government also plans to introduce five new bills during the session. These include the income-tax (Amendment) Bill, 2026, and the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, 2026, both intended to replace ordinances currently in force.
Other proposed legislations include the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2026, the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment)Bil, 2026, and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
The bills are expected to cover issues ranging from judicial reforms and tax administration to MSME policy and civil registration procedures.
The opposition is also gearing up for the session, with leaders from various parties in both Houses scheduled to meet on July 20 to finalise a joint strategy. Discussions are expected to focus on the government's legislative agenda and key political issues that the Opposition intends to raise during the session.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has already indicated that the party will strongly oppose the proposed Delimitation Bill if it is reintroduced, alleging that the government is attempting to revive legislation that earlier failed to secure the required support. The Congress has also expressed opposition to the proposed amendments to the FCRA and the National Food Security Act, besides the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhisthan Bill.
Ahead of the session, the Centre has convened an all-party meeting on July 19 to brief political parties on its legislative agenda and seek cooperation for the smooth functioning of Parliament.
The Monsoon Session is expected to witness intense debates, with the Opposition also likely to raise issues such as the NEET-UG paper leak and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's remarks on casaulties during Operation Sindoor.
