The Bihar government safely rescued around 100 pilgrims from Maharashtra who were stranded in Kathmandu following flash floods in Nepal and facilitated their return to their home state by train on Saturday.

Pilgrims escorted to Sitamarhi

The rescue operation was carried out on the directions of the Bihar Chief Minister under the supervision of the Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary of the Disaster Management Department.

Following a request from the Maharashtra government, the Sitamarhi district administration acted promptly on August 28 and safely escorted the stranded pilgrims from the Nepal border to Sitamarhi.

The district administration also arranged food, drinking water and other essential facilities for the pilgrims during their stay.

Stay arranged in Patna

The pilgrims were later brought from Sitamarhi to Patna, reaching the city at around 2.30 am on August 29.

The Patna district administration arranged their stay at the OP Sah Community Building. The pilgrims were provided accommodation, food, medical check-ups and other necessary facilities during the night.

Special train arrangements

The Bihar government coordinated with the Chairman of the Railway Board in New Delhi to facilitate the pilgrims' return to Maharashtra.

Following the coordination, two additional coaches were attached to the Patna-Purna Express to accommodate the pilgrims.

The group departed from Patna for Maharashtra by train at around 7.30 am on Saturday under arrangements made by the state government.

Following the arrangements for their safe return, the pilgrims expressed gratitude to the Bihar government and the Sitamarhi and Patna district administrations for their prompt response and coordinated relief efforts.
