Hoax caller held

The Sirsi police have arrested Wasim Khaji, a 25-year-old, who created panic by making a hoax call to Mangala Express, saying that there was a bomb in the train.


The Sirsi police have arrested Wasim Khaji, a 25-year-old, who created panic by making a hoax call to Mangala Express, saying that there was a bomb in the train.

The cops tracked Khaji from his mobile number, and recovered eight unused SIM cards from him. They also found literature and maps of tourist locations in Goa, Belgaum and Uttara Kannada district from him.

Khaji, who hails from a village in Ratnagiri district,u00a0 Maharashtra, reportedly went to Mumbai and started a small-time business of selling locally manufactured mixer grinders.

The caller was trackedu00a0 from his mobile number. He used to change SIM cards after selling his customers substandard goods.


His work took him to several places in and around Belgaum, Goa and Uttara Kannada district.

The Sirsi police, while interrogating him in connection with the seizure,u00a0found that he had also made a similar call to Ratnagiri Express.

"He used to change SIM cards after selling his customers substandard goods," a cop said.

Khaji has made a similar call earlier when he was in Goa, but was never caught. He was produced in a local court in Sirsi and was remanded to police custody for 15 days.
