How bookies paid lakhs to players, earned crores on UK betting site

The recent probe into spot-fixing involving cricketers and Bollywood personalities has acquired international ramifications, as investigations have revealed that while bookies paid bowlers like S Sreesanth a few lakhs to ‘throw in the towel', they earned crores and then invested this through UK-based betting website www.betfair.com, raking in more moolah.

Sources from the Crime Branch revealed that bookies Sanjay Agarwal alias Chhota Nagpur and his brother Rajesh Agarwal from Jaipur placed wagers worth Rs 200 crore on www.betfair.com.

Agarwals were partners with the well-known bookie Jupiteru00a0who has been identified as Chandresh Barjatya by Mumbai Crime Branch.

Highly-placed sources in Crime Branch revealed that the bookies had placed bets with user name Indian_41 on the website. The user name was linked to the user id rajesh_69@sifi.com.

Investigations with the help of cyber experts revealed that the username was linked to the international phone no 0044778529474.

The money won from betting was diverted to a bank in the UK. The money was then routed back to India through hawala.u00a0Both Chhota Nagpur and Jupiter are wanted by Mumbai Crime Branch, as well as Special Squad of Delhi police.u00a0
