Jammu Gurudwara conducts free screening of Satluj

Hundreds of people gathered at Gurdwara Sahib in Jammu on Friday for a free public screening of the Diljit Dosanjh-starrer Satluj, organised by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) after the film was removed from OTT platforms.

The film is based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra and revisits his alleged custodial killing in 1995. The SGPC said the screening was aimed at keeping alive the memory of Khalra's struggle and ensuring that the events depicted in the film are not forgotten.

"I fail to understand why some people are trying to politicise this film. It is neither against the country nor against any community. It only highlights the system's failure to protect the life of a common man," Balkar Singh, who travelled from Rajouri, told media outlets.

Surjit Kaur, who came from Talab Tillo, described it as "cinema with a purpose". Ripudaman Singh said the younger generation "should know about history and what happened in Punjab in 1995". The screening comes amid a debate over the film, with the government maintaining that it whitewashes terrorism, while sections of the Sikh community oppose restrictions on its exhibition.
