Irregularity on each floor makes demolition difficult for CIDCO

Builder illegally developed extra 1.5 metres on every floor; officials say this has complicated their task for coming up with demolition plan as they don't want to damaged legal flats


Days after the Bombay High Court dismissed the petition filed by the Abhishek Builders and Developers and the residents of the controversial high-rise Green Heritage in Kharghar, the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Ltd (CIDCO) is now gearing up for the demolition work. A team of officials from CIDCO's anti-encroachment surveyed the building earlier this week.

"After the court's decision, our officials have now started preparing a plan to remove the illegally developed area in the building. Also, a team of officials had gone to survey the Green Heritage building. It will submit a detailed report on the violations and will mark areas that are to be demolished," CIDCO's chief controller of unauthorised constructions Anil Patil said.

‘Tough task ahead'
CIDCO, however, will be taking a month's time before it starts with the actual demolition process. It claimed that since the builder had illegally developed extra 1.5 metres per floor, marking the area for demolition is going to be a challenging task, as it plans to execute demolition work without damaging the rest ofthe structure.

"In order to render least damage possible to the other flats in this building, we want to study the building's structure. However, it is a complex and a tedious process, so we need at least one month before we start with the actual demolition work," Patil said.

B C Mangarhe, a resident of Green Heritage, said, "We, the residents, did what we could. Now, we have asked the developer to do whatever is necessary in order to get the building regularised, as the developer is responsible for the illegal construction." u00a0
