Two boys died and another sustained serious injuries after they fell from a tractor during a Ganesh immersion procession in Raichur city of Karnataka on Saturday, officials said.
The incident occurred at M Eranna Circle when the tractor carrying the boys was moving along the road as part of the procession, news agency IANS reported.
Raichur Superintendent of Police (SP) Arunangshu Giri said the incident occurred when the Ganesh immersion procession was underway, and the tractor lost its balance near a road hump.
The boys fell under the wheels of the vehicle and sustained severe injuries.
The victims have been identified as 16-year-old Suchit Kumar and 14-year-old Charan Kumar. Another boy, Vijaykumar, sustained serious injuries in the incident and is undergoing treatment at the Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).
The bodies of the deceased have been shifted to the RIMS mortuary.
"Suchit Kumar and Charan Kumar fell from the vehicle and suffered severe head injuries. We shifted them to the hospital and medical treatment was administered, but they succumbed to their injuries," the SP said.
A case has been registered at the Raichur City Traffic Police Station, and further investigation is underway, he added.

Seven people, including four members of a family, were killed in two separate road accidents near Hyderabad in the early hours of Saturday, police said.
Four members of a family, including a couple, died on the spot after the four-wheeler they were travelling in hit a roadside culvert at Palamakula village on NH-44, news agency PTI reported, quoting the police. A fifth occupant, who was driving the vehicle, sustained serious injuries and was shifted to a hospital.
The family members were travelling from their native village of Mettugadda Thanda in Nawabpet mandal of Mahabubnagar district to Shamshabad after attending a Ganesh immersion event in their village, a police official at Shamshabad police station said.
In a separate accident, three people died after a truck hit their stationary vehicle under the limits of Shamirpet police station.
The accident occurred after a tyre of the scrap-laden vehicle got punctured, following which the three occupants stopped in the emergency lane of the Outer Ring Road to replace it using a jack. A truck allegedly being driven in a rash and negligent manner then crashed into the stationary vehicle, police said.
The impact left all three occupants with severe bleeding injuries. Two died on the spot, while the third was shifted to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries, police added.
The truck driver fled the spot after the accident, police said.
Police are investigating both accidents.
