The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Maharashtra's Latur district has apprehended a 43-year-old contractual assistant programme officer for accepting a bribe of Rs 12,000, an official said on Friday, reported the PTI.
The suspect was identified as Jyotirling Baburao Chikhale (43). He is serving at the Panchayat Samiti office in Renapur, the officials said.
According to the ACB, the complainant had approached Chikhale to process the revised estimate for the construction of a well under the Employment Guarantee Scheme and correct his surname in the government records. However, Chikhale allegedly demanded Rs 15,000 to do the job, according to the PTI.
The complainant informed the ACB regarding the matter and after being alerted, the ACB first verified the complaint.

During the verification operation, the ACB officials found out that Chikhale had allegedly told the complainant to 'give whatever you feel is right', said the official, as per the PTI.
Following the verification, a trap was laid by a team of officials and Chikhale was caught accepting Rs 12,000 from the complainant on Tuesday, the official said, adding that he has been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act, the news agency reported.
Rationing inspector held for accepting Rs 48,000 bribe
Meanwhile, in an another incident, a rationing officer attached to the Civil Supplies Department was arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs 48,000 here, an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) official said on Thursday, reported the PTI.
The complainant, who owns four fair-price shops, had approached the ACB alleging accused Sagar Sahebrao Varale was demanding Rs 2,000 per month for each shop under his jurisdiction, the official said, as per the PTI.
Varale had been demanding Rs 48,000 from the complainant, saying it was commission for his four shops for the past six months, the ACB official said.
After being approached, the ACB laid a trap and caught Varale red-handed as he accepted the bribe on May 19, the official said.
"We have arrested Varale under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act for demanding and accepting illegal gratification," said inspector Rupali Pol of ACB's Thane unit, the news agency reported.
