A leopard was sighted near the Bavdhan area around 12:30 am on December 1, with the visuals captured on a mobile phone. Forest Department officials have also verified that the footage is genuine, and teams have carried out site inspections following the report.
According to the officials, no additional sightings have been reported after the initial incident. Preliminary assessment indicates that the animal may have been moving along the Ramnadi nala, a known wildlife movement corridor. Leopards have historically inhabited the NDA hill ranges, which connect further toward the Mulshi region.
Furthermore, the forest officials from the Bhamburda range have also initiated a detailed investigation. Teams are currently examining the site for indirect signs such as pugmarks, scats, and potential CCTV footage from the vicinity. A detailed status update will be provided once the verification process concludes, informed Mangesh Tate, assistant conservator of forest.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious, especially during late-night hours. Residents in the NDA-Pashan-Bavdhan belt have been advised to avoid unnecessary movement late at night. Do not leave small children or pets unattended outdoors. Stay alert while moving through dimly lit or isolated areas. Immediately report any confirmed leopard sightings.
Maharashtra Forest Department has further urged that, in case of direct or genuine visuals of wildlife movement, residents should inform the concerned authorities.
