Ahead of the Maharashtra local body elections, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday urged people to elect corporators and leaders who will align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's development-focused agenda, reported the PTI.
Speaking at a rally in Dharni town in Amravati district of Maharashtra, CM Fadnavis highlighted a series of development works undertaken across municipal corporations and zilla parishads, along with welfare schemes implemented throughout the state.
CM Fadnavis asserted that his government does not merely offer assurances but delivers on them.
He said that if citizens want development and welfare programmes to be carried out transparently in their respective cities, they must support the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), according to the PTI.
Elections for 246 municipal councils and 42 nagar panchayats are scheduled for December 2, with vote counting to take place on December 3, 2025.
"We must elect leaders and corporators who will work according to our development agenda and that of PM Modi," Fadnavis told the audience.
He highlighted that after the Mahayuti government assumed office, it made medical treatment of up to Rs 5 lakh free for all. A month ago, the government expanded the scheme's coverage from 1,300 to 2,400 ailments, as per the PTI.
The administration has taken steps to improve roads, education, and healthcare, provided free electricity, and introduced measures for farmers and the development of tribal communities. He reiterated that his government not only makes promises but ensures their fulfilment, the news agency reported.
CM Fadnavis also noted that his administration continued the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, despite allegations from the Opposition that it would be discontinued after last year's assembly elections.
The scheme provides a monthly stipend to women from economically weaker sections.
"I want to assure my sisters that as long as your âDevabhau' remains Chief Minister, no one can stop the funds for the Ladki Bahin scheme. We do not take decisions solely with elections in mind, because we know we must return to the people repeatedly," he said, the news agency reported.
Launched in July last year, the flagship state scheme provides a monthly allowance of Rs 1,500 to women aged 21 to 65 years whose annual family income is below Rs 2.5 lakh.
