In a move to strengthen the functioning and credibility of the National Testing Agency (NTA), the Ministry of Education has announced a series of leadership and structural reforms, including the posting of four senior government officers and the advertisement of three specialist positions.
The measures are part of a broader institutional reform programme being implemented in line with recommendations of the High-Level Expert Committee constituted by the Government of India to improve examination conduct and restore confidence in the country's examination ecosystem.
According to an official statement from the National Testing Agency (NTA), four senior officers from the Government of India have been posted to the NTA over the past few days. This includes two officers at the Joint Secretary level, who will serve as Additional Director Generals, and two officers at the Director level. These appointments are intended to strengthen the agency's senior leadership with experienced administrators drawn from central services and inter-ministerial backgrounds.
The Ministry said the additional administrative capacity would support NTA's expanded mandate and help improve oversight, transparency, and operational efficiency in conducting high-stakes examinations that serve over one crore candidates annually.
The NTA, while issuing an official statement, also highlighted that they will be hiring three specialist officers for the positions of Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Chief Finance Officer (CFO), and General Manager (Human Resources).
The CTO will oversee the agency's digital examination ecosystem, including candidate-facing systems; AI-driven integrity controls such as impersonation detection and biometric authentication; cybersecurity frameworks; and modernisation of NTA's technology infrastructure in coordination with agencies such as NIC, C-DAC, CERT-In and MeiTY.
The CFO will be responsible for financial governance, treasury management, statutory compliance, and examination-wise accounting, while the GM (HR) will lead workforce management, HR system modernisation, employee engagement, and professionalisation of institutional policies.
Applications for these posts have been invited within 15 days from the date of advertisement on the NTA website. Selection will be based on qualifications, experience, and demonstrated leadership capability.
The major change in NTA comes after certain questions of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2026 were leaked and sent to various students.
