In an unfortunate incident, an LPG cylinder leak triggered a fire and a blast at a house in Beed city on Monday, April 21, leaving a man seriously injured, police said.
As reported by the news agency PTI, the incident occurred when a gas cylinder was being replaced. It is suspected that the leaking gas came into contact with a lit lamp in the prayer room, triggering a blaze, which further resulted in an explosion.
An official, while briefing about the incident, said that the injured man was rushed to a nearby private hospital for emergency treatment. His condition is reported to be serious, as per PTI.
Acting on the information received, a team from the Beed Municipal Council's Fire Brigade extinguished the flames before they could spread to adjacent houses.
Earlier on Friday, April 19, a Level-I fire broke out early Sunday morning at the Umarikar Building on L.T. Marg near Crawford Market in South Mumbai. The incident prompted a swift response from multiple civic agencies.
As per the authorities, the incident was reported at around 6:20 am to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)'s fire control room.
According to officials from the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), the blaze was confined to four to five shops located on the ground floor of the building. Thick smoke had spread across approximately the same number of adjoining shops, raising concerns among nearby occupants and traders in the busy commercial area.
The fire brigade declared it a Level-I fire call at 6.27 am and immediately deployed firefighting personnel and equipment to the spot. Along with the MFB, personnel from the Mumbai Police, BEST staff, and local BMC ward officials were mobilised to assist in managing the situation and ensuring public safety.
Firefighters worked for several hours to bring the situation under control. The blaze was successfully extinguished by around 10.30 am, officials confirmed.
No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident. Authorities are yet to determine the exact cause of the fire.
In another incident, a fire broke out at a commercial structure in Mumbai, damaging around 10 shops, officials said on Sunday.
There were no casualties in the blaze, which was reported at 11.31 pm on Saturday on D B Marg opposite a mall in the Mumbai Central area, they said.
The fire was confined to electric wiring, installations and equipment in around five large and seven small shops spread over nearly 5,000 sq ft on the ground and first floors of the structure, a civic official said.
