A video shared on social media has sparked an investigation in Maharashtra's Pune after a woman alleged that a bedsheet bought at a local religious fair was labelled as being 'Made in Pakistan', as per IANS.
The woman, identified as Pooja Saraf, posted the video on X, claiming she had purchased the bedsheet during a fair held near the Moraya Gosavi Temple in Pimpri-Chinchwad on Wednesday, which coincided with the Hindu festival of Sankashti Chaturthi.
In the video, Saraf explained that a temporary market is set up during the monthly religious gathering, where vendors sell various household products and daily-use items.
She said she bought several items from the fair, including a bedsheet. After returning home, she noticed a label on the product that reportedly stated it was manufactured in Pakistan.
Saraf expressed surprise and concern over the discovery and questioned how such a product could be available for sale in a local market.
Following the incident, Saraf advised consumers to check product labels carefully before making purchases.
She said the experience had made her more cautious and encouraged others to remain vigilant while buying goods from local markets and fairs.
The video quickly went viral and attracted significant attention online, prompting authorities to look into the matter.
Although no official complaint has been submitted, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have started a preliminary inquiry based on the claims made in the video, reported the news agency.
Officials have reportedly formed a special team to verify whether the allegation is genuine and to trace the origin of the product.
Police have also requested the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation to take necessary action if any vendor is found selling products in violation of existing rules and regulations.
Authorities said further action will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
The matter has attracted attention because India imposed restrictions on direct and indirect imports of goods originating from Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack last year.
The restrictions were introduced as part of broader measures aimed at addressing security concerns and limiting trade involving Pakistani products.
The Pune inquiry comes amid similar incidents reported in Maharashtra in recent weeks.
Last month, authorities in Dhule registered a case against two traders after allegedly recovering Pakistani-made cosmetic products during raids, reported the news agency.
Earlier, police in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar also took action against traders accused of stocking and selling products manufactured in Pakistan.
Officials said investigations in the Pune case are continuing and more details are expected once the inquiry is completed.
