MSEDCL assistant engineer held by ACB for accepting Rs 1.5 lakh bribe in Maharashtra's Raigad

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested an assistant engineer of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) in Raigad for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh, reported the PTI.

According to the officials, the corruption case involves a person who had applied for a consent letter to install a 200 KV transformer for business purposes at Pali, Khalapur in Raigad district of Maharashtra.

To issue the required project estimate, the accused, posted at the Khalapur unit, initially demanded Rs 1.7 lakh, which he later reduced to Rs 1.5 lakh after negotiations, according to ACB Deputy Superintendent of Police Sarita IS Bhosale, as per the PTI.

Unwilling to pay, the applicant approached the ACB. A trap was laid at the MSEDCL office on Monday, and the accused was caught accepting the Rs 1.5 lakh bribe.

An FIR has been filed against the assistant engineer at Khalapur police station under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, the ACB said, according to the PTI.

The ACB has initiated further investigation to identify any additional parties were involved in the matter, officials said.

Teen booked for beating up TC in Thane

Meanwhile, in an another incident, an 18-year-old female passenger allegedly assaulted a woman ticket checker on a foot overbridge at Thane railway station after being asked to show her ticket, police said, reported the PTI.

The incident occurred on Monday when the 39-year-old head TC was checking tickets.

The teenager, who was talking on her mobile phone, refused to show her ticket. When asked for her ID, she showed a PAN card instead of the Aadhaar card, leading to a heated argument between them, a Thane railway police official said on Tuesday, according to the PTI.

The passenger then allegedly hit the TC's face with her mobile phone, he said.

The TC subsequently took the accused to the station manager's office, where she was identified as a local resident, involved in housekeeping and beauty services.

The police were called and a case was registered against her under provisions of the Indian Railway Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
