The India Meteorological Department (IMD), in its latest weather bulletin on Wednesday, has issued a yellow alert across several districts in Maharashtra. The state is set to witness typical pre-monsoon variability over the next few days, with thunderstorms and rain affecting western and coastal regions, even as heat continues to dominate the interiors. The weather bureau has appealed to residents to stay alert to changing conditions, especially in districts under yellow alert.
Mumbai and Thane are expected to receive light rainfall amid hot and humid conditions. Meanwhile, districts such as Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and Jalgaon are under yellow alert, with thunderstorms, lightning, and winds of 30-40 kmph likely at isolated places.
A wider set of districts is expected to experience active pre-monsoon conditions over the coming days. These include Raigad, Nashik, Dhule, Pune, Satara, Kolhapur, Sangli, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Beed, Nanded, Latur, Dharashiv, Parbhani, Hingoli, and Jalna.
These regions are likely to witness thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds (30-60 kmph), and light to moderate rainfall.
Parts of western Maharashtra, including Pune and surrounding ghat areas, along with Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli and Solapur, have been placed under a yellow warning for the next few days until Saturday, April 25.
These areas may experience repeated thunderstorms, moderate rainfall, strong winds and even hailstorms in isolated locations, making them among the most weather-affected regions in the state.
The coastal districts of Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg will see fluctuating weather, including light rain or thundershowers, particularly during afternoons and evenings, along with persistent humidity.
Palghar is expected to remain mostly dry despite being part of the coastal belt.
Districts such as Nashik, Dhule, Nandurbar, and Jalgaon will see a mix of conditions, like early thunderstorms or light rain in some areas, several dry days, especially in Nandurbar and Jalgaon and gradual reduction in rainfall activity toward the end of the five-day period.
In contrast, eastern districts including Nagpur, Akola, Amravati and Chandrapur are expected to remain largely dry, with heatwave conditions likely at isolated places.
Other districts such as Bhandara, Gondia, Buldhana, Washim and Gadchiroli are not under any major weather warning.
