The India Meteorological Department (IMD), in its latest weather bulletin on Tuesday, has issued a yellow alert across several districts in Maharashtra, forecasting thundershowers, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds.
While some districts are under a rain alert, others have been warned of hot and humid conditions.
Mumbai and Thane are expected to receive light rainfall. Districts including Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and Dhule are under a yellow alert, with thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rain, and winds of 30-40 kmph likely at isolated places.
Several districts, including Jalgaon, Nashik (including ghat areas), Ahilyanagar, Solapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Dharashiv, Amravati, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Yavatmal, Washim, Wardha, Nagpur, and Gadchiroli, are also under a yellow alert and may witness similar weather conditions.
Meanwhile, Pune, the ghat areas of Pune, Kolhapur and Satara, along with Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, and Solapur, have been issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms and gusty winds for the next five days, till April 25.
According to the IMD, parts of Maharashtra continued to witness a sharp contrast in weather conditions on Tuesday, with interior districts reeling under high temperatures while coastal regions remained relatively moderate.
Cities in the Marathwada and north Maharashtra belt recorded some of the highest temperatures of the day. Akola emerged as one of the hottest locations at 43.6 degrees Celsius, followed closely by Malegaon at 42.0 degrees Celsius and Beed and Jeur, both hovering above 41 degrees Celsius.
Aurangabad and Osmanabad also recorded temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius, indicating persistent heatwave-like conditions in interior regions.
Meanwhile, Nashik recorded the lowest temperature in Maharashtra at 21.1 degrees Celsius.
In contrast, coastal districts experienced comparatively lower maximum temperatures. Mumbai recorded 33.5 degrees Celsius at Colaba and 34.9 degrees Celsius at Santacruz, though both stations reported higher-than-normal temperatures.
Alibag and Ratnagiri remained in the low 30s, offering slight relief due to sea breeze influence.
Minimum temperatures across the state ranged between 21 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius, with warmer nights reported in coastal and urban pockets such as Mumbai and Thane.
Humidity levels were notably high along the coast, with Mumbai recording over 80 per cent relative humidity in the morning, contributing to discomfort despite moderate temperatures.
Meanwhile, drier conditions prevailed in interior regions like Nashik and Parbhani, where humidity levels dropped significantly by evening.
Overall, the weather pattern highlights a continued heat build-up across inland Maharashtra, while coastal areas remain relatively stable but humid.
The IMD is likely to monitor these conditions closely, especially as pre-monsoon activity begins to develop in the coming weeks.
