The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued red and orange alerts for several districts in Maharashtra as heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are likely to persist in parts of the state.
According to the IMD, districts including Akola, Wardha and Amravati are expected to witness heatwave to severe heatwave conditions at a few places.
Warm night conditions were also reported at isolated locations, adding to discomfort levels across the Vidarbha region.
Meanwhile, the IMD has placed Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, the ghat areas of Kolhapur, Latur and Dharashiv under a yellow alert.
These regions are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds with speeds of 30-40 kmph at isolated places.
Weather officials said the contrasting weather pattern highlights the ongoing mix of extreme heat and pre-monsoon activity across Maharashtra.
