Monsoon remains active in Maharashtra: IMD forecasts continued showers over Mumbai; Mahabaleshwar records highest rainfall

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday forecast cloudy skies with intermittent rainfall over Mumbai and its neighbouring districts over the coming days, even as several parts of Maharashtra recorded light to moderate showers during the past 24 hours.

According to the latest weather bulletin issued by the IMD, Mumbai recorded a maximum temperature of 28.8 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 25.0 degrees Celsius. The city received 19 mm of rainfall during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am on Monday. The Santacruz observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 29.9 degrees Celsius, a minimum of 23.5 degrees Celsius, and 10 mm of rainfall during the same period.

In the neighbouring districts, Alibag received 11 mm of rainfall, Dahanu recorded 15 mm, and Ratnagiri registered 11 mm. The bulletin indicated that monsoon activity remained active across the Konkan region and several parts of western Maharashtra.

Elsewhere in Maharashtra, Bramhapuri in Vidarbha recorded the state's highest maximum temperature at 37.0 degrees Celsius, while Mahabaleshwar registered the lowest minimum temperature at 18.0 degrees Celsius, making it the coolest location in the state. Other cities recording high daytime temperatures included Jalgaon (36.4 degrees Celsius), Gondia (35.8 degrees Celsius), Chandrapur and Nagpur (35.6 degrees Celsius each), and Akola (35.3 degrees Celsius).

In Pune, the Shivajinagar observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 31.8 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 23.6 degrees Celsius, along with 11.8 mm of rainfall during the previous 24 hours. The IMD has forecast a partly cloudy sky becoming generally cloudy towards Tuesday afternoon or evening, with thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and light to moderate rainfall very likely. The city's maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to remain around 31 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius, respectively.

The IMD said monsoon conditions are expected to remain favourable across Maharashtra, with cloudy skies and intermittent rainfall likely over Mumbai, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and several other parts of the state over the coming days.
