Following widespread showers across Maharashtra on Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted continued rainfall activity across the state over the next five days. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely at isolated places in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and parts of the Konkan region, while several districts may also experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds through June 28.
While rainfall intensity is expected to ease slightly over the following days, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely to continue across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
The IMD has forecast intense rainfall activity across the Konkan belt.
Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg are likely to witness heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching 30-50 kmph at isolated locations during the forecast period.
Districts including Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur and Solapur are likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds over the coming days.
Pune district may experience winds of up to 50-60 kmph on June 25, while the ghat sections of Pune are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on Wednesday.
The ghat areas of Nashik, Satara and Kolhapur are also likely to witness periods of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms during the five-day forecast period.
Several districts in Marathwada, including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Nanded, Latur, Hingoli and Dharashiv, are expected to receive thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds and spells of heavy rainfall.
Beed, Nanded and Latur are among the districts where isolated heavy rainfall has been forecast on multiple days.
In Vidarbha, districts such as Nagpur, Chandrapur, Amravati, Yavatmal, Gondia and Gadchiroli are likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph.
Heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated places in Nagpur, Chandrapur, Amravati, Gondia and Yavatmal on some days.
"No warning" has been issued for a few Vidarbha districts on certain days later in the forecast period, but thunderstorm activity is expected to return by June 28.
The weather department has indicated a "very likely" probability of the forecast conditions occurring across all districts covered in the outlook.
With monsoon activity remaining strong across Maharashtra, people have been advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms, avoid waterlogged areas and stay updated on local weather advisories.
