It pays to be a politician, even if there are delays. The Delhi police has recovered an SUV belonging to west Delhi MP Mahabal Mishra. Three persons - Sunil, Satya Rao and Jasbir - have been arrested from near Vasant Kunj in south Delhi. They are part of the Sunil-Asif gang, Sunil being the helmer.

Mishra's white Endeavour car was stolen on August 6 from Dwarka after his driver was overpowered by four men, who tied his hands and blindfolded him. The driver was dropped off at a remote place by the gang who then drove off with the vehicle.

The accused then sold the vehicle to Satya Rao and Babloo for Rs 2.5 lakh."They held the driver captive at gun point and drove it away. The driver was thrown out of the car near Najafgarh," said a senior police officer.

Wasim Qureshi, who is their associate, had changed vehicle engine and chassis numbers and also prepared forged documents bearing registration number PB-08-BH-8416 and returned the vehicle to Satya and Babloo.

After ruling out several professional gangs, the special team of Delhi Police zeroed in on Sunil who was recently arrested by anti auto-theft squad and was on bail. His movements were monitored and he was later arrested, a police official said.

Sunil has previously been arrested by Rajasthan Police and Gurgaon Police in 2005. In 2010, he was arrested twice in Delhi in two different cases.
