Three coaches of Train No. 12290 sustained damage to their window panes after the train was allegedly targeted with stones near Borkhedi in Nagpur on Friday night, railway authorities said.
The incident took place at around 8.27 pm on September 25, after the train passed Borkhedi Station. Window glasses of coaches A-1, B-2 and B-5 was cracked in the incident. No passenger was injured, and no loss of property was reported.
After receiving information about the incident at around 8.46 pm, RPF and GRP personnel searched the Borkhedi-Sindhi section between kilometre 803 and 796.
The teams also checked areas near Borkhedi and Brahmani villages and questioned the Police Patil and local residents. However, no suspicious person or concrete evidence linked to the incident was found.
According to the escort staff and passengers, an object or stone struck the train windows from outside at around 8.27 pm. Officials are conducting further inquiries to determine the exact location from where the stone was allegedly thrown.
A case was registered against an unknown person at 2.55 am on September 26 under Section 153 of the Railway Act.
The investigation into the stone-pelting incident is underway.
In a similar incident earlier this year, a commuter, Nishant Ratnakumar Khatri, lost his left eye while travelling on a Churchgate-bound local fast train on February 3. According to Khatri, there was a commotion in his compartment as two men were arguing intensely. Later, when the train reached Bandra station, one of the men alighted onto the tracks and hurled a stone at the other. But instead of hitting the intended target, the stone hit Khatri on his left eye, injuring him severely.
Talking to the media, Khatri said, "After the stone hit my eye, no one helped me; no one pulled the chain to stop the train as it had started moving. I got off the running train and approached an RPF officer, who took me to meet the station master."
Khatri alleged he was made to wait for almost an hour for the station master's arrival, saying, "I had been requesting RPF personnel to get me medical attention, but they said that they couldn't do so until the station master arrived and a memo was prepared."
After the arrival of his brothers, Khatri was taken first to Bhabha Hospital for wound cleaning and dressing, and later to Hinduja Hospital, where he underwent surgery and was informed that he had lost his eye completely.
