Nashik: Cop kills self with service revolver at police station

A 40-year-old policeman allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver at a police station in Nashik city on Tuesday. Inspector Ashok Najan reported for duty at Ambad police station in the morning and allegedly shot himself in his cabin, news wire PTI reported quoting an official.

The police inspector was found dead by his colleagues in the police station. The police personnel present in the police station premises took Najan to the nearby district hospital.

As per PTI report, following the incident, police commissioner Sandeep Karnik and other senior officials reached the police station. The cause for the suicide is yet to be ascertained, and a probe has been initiated, Karnik said.

Meanwhile, alert locals rescued a 53-year-old man from a lake after a suicide attempt in Thane city, a civic official said on Tuesday. The incident occurred at Makhmali Talao around 9.20 am, reported PTI.

Residents rescued Sandeep Jadhav, a resident of Khopat, from the lake. He sustained minor injuries and was admitted to Kalwa Civic Hospital, said Yasin Tadvi, the chief of the civic disaster management cell.

Local fire stations and the regional disaster management Cell (RDMC) team rushed to the scene, but people in the vicinity had already pulled the man out, he said. Jadhav allegedly attempted suicide because of some domestic issues, and the police are investigating the matter.

However, in a destressing incident in Odisha's Bubhaneshwar, a class 10 student died allegedly by suicide in Bolangir district hours before the commencement of the annual state board examination on Tuesday. The hostel inmates found the boy hanging inside the washroom in the morning. He was rushed to the hospital and doctors found him dead, PTI reported quoting police officials.
