A fire broke out in a multi-storied building in a Noida village on Wednesday, killing two people, police said.
The fire was later brought under control, and around 50 tenants, residing in the building in Mamura village in Sector 66, were evacuated safely, officials said.
Police said that two residents, a man and a woman, were rushed to the hospital; however, after reaching the hospital, both of them were declared dead by doctors.
According to Joint Commissioner of Police Rajiv Mishra, the ground-plus-four building had around 10 to 12 rooms on each floor that were being used as residential flats, as per PTI.
Following the fire that killed two people in Noida, the landlord of the building has been arrested by the Noida police, and further investigation is underway.
Mishra, while briefing about the incident, said that the fire appears to have been sparked by an electric two-wheeler being charged inside the building. It spread to nearby petrol-powered two-wheelers parked on the premises, as cited by PTI.
Seven fire tenders and a hydraulic platform were rushed to the spot immediately after the blaze was reported, and most residents were safely evacuated.
Mishra, while briefing the media about the incident, also added, "Two persons, who already had health-related issues, fell ill after inhaling smoke and were shifted to the district hospital by ambulance," as per PTI.
However, an FIR has been registered at the Phase-3 police station against the building owner (the leaseholder) under relevant provisions of law, and an investigation is underway.
In a separate incident, a massive fire broke out at the abandoned Kingdom of Dreams in Gurugram's Sector 29 on Wednesday. At least five fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the blaze, as per ANI.
According to Fire Officer Naresh Kumar, there were no casualties, as the iconic facility has been shut down for a while now. The structure, the fire officer said, was reduced to a "heap of scrap."
Fire Officer Naresh Kumar, while speaking to the media, said, "Our office is located right behind this building, less than half a kilometer away, which is how we noticed the smoke rising. There was a massive column of smoke originating from the thermocol installed at the front of the structure.
"I immediately dispatched five or six of our vehicles all at once. We do not know the cause of the fire yet, as the facility has been shut down for quite some time. A fire had broken out here once before, which also occurred during the night. No, there were no casualties. The place was empty and closed down; it is entirely reduced to a heap of scrap," Kumar further added.
