Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of development projects worth around Rs 14,700 crore in Haryana's Jind, unveiling major road, railway, healthcare and cultural infrastructure aimed at boosting connectivity, economic growth and public services across the state.
The Prime Minister was joined by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at the event held at Eklavya Stadium.
A major share of the investment is dedicated to road infrastructure, with National Highway projects worth over Rs 12,470 crore. PM Modi inaugurated the 157.92-km Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway (Packages 1 to 5), built at an estimated cost of Rs 9,680 crore.
The expressway, part of the 667-km Delhi-Amritsar-Katra corridor, is expected to reduce travel time between Delhi and Katra from nearly 14 hours to around six hours, while cutting the Delhi-Amritsar journey from about eight hours to four hours. It is also expected to decongest NH-44, improve connectivity to the Vaishno Devi shrine and strengthen industrial and logistics activity along the route.
The Prime Minister also dedicated the Ambala-Kala Amb Highway and the Jind-Gohana Greenfield Highway, both expected to improve regional connectivity, reduce travel time and support freight movement. He also laid the foundation stone for the Hansi-Barwala Brownfield Highway Project, which will widen and modernise the existing road network.
PM Modi dedicated the elevated railway track at Kurukshetra, a project aimed at easing traffic congestion by eliminating railway crossings and improving road safety.
He also inaugurated two government medical institutions- Pandit Neki Ram Sharma Government Medical College in Bhiwani and Maharishi Chyawan Medical College and Rao Tula Ram Hospital in Narnaul. The institutions are expected to increase MBBS seats, strengthen medical education and improve access to specialised healthcare in Haryana.
The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone of a Sikh Museum at Kurukshetra, which will showcase the history, teachings and contributions of Sikh Gurus and the Sikh community through modern digital exhibits.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi flagged off India's first hydrogen-powered passenger train between Jind and Sonipat, marking a significant milestone in the country's clean mobility initiative.
Designed and developed using indigenous technology, the train runs on hydrogen fuel cells that generate electricity while emitting only water vapour, making it a zero-carbon-emission transport system. The 10-coach train, powered by a 3,200 HP propulsion system, is among the world's longest and most powerful hydrogen-powered passenger trains.
The initiative is expected to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, lower noise pollution and support India's transition towards greener and more sustainable public transport.
