Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday welcomed leaders of the expanded BRICS grouping as they arrived at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi for the second day of the 18th BRICS Summit.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Ghana President John Mahama, Burundi President Evariste Ndayishimiye, Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Philippines President Ferdinand R. Marcos and Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud were among the dignitaries who arrived at the summit venue.
The BRICS and outreach nations' leaders are scheduled to participate in an open session focusing on the core pillars of this year's theme, 'Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability: Shaping the Future for Inclusive Global Growth'.
The leaders are expected to deliberate on areas of mutual interest and explore ways to deepen cooperation among member countries across various sectors.
On Saturday, BRICS nations adopted the 'New Delhi Declaration', which commended India for hosting the Outreach/BRICS Plus Dialogue segment of the summit and said India's chairship had given "new impetus" to efforts aimed at strengthening international cooperation and solidarity.
The declaration reaffirmed the BRICS spirit of mutual respect and understanding, sovereign equality, solidarity, democracy, openness, inclusiveness, collaboration and consensus.
It also underlined the grouping's commitment to strengthening cooperation among its expanded membership through three key pillars - political and security cooperation, economic and financial cooperation, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
The BRICS countries reached consensus on a Joint Statement on the first day of the summit hosted by India at Bharat Mandapam. The agreement was described as a "major diplomatic breakthrough" amid sharply divergent geopolitical positions among member countries.
The New Delhi Declaration said the expanded grouping would work towards promoting peace, a more representative and fairer international order, a reformed multilateral system, sustainable development and inclusive growth.
On Saturday evening, Modi hosted a gala dinner for BRICS leaders and other representatives. Russian President Vladimir Putin, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Tokayev and WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus were among those who attended.
A specially curated vegan dinner showcased India's culinary diversity while reflecting sustainability and inclusivity. The evening also featured the cultural performance 'Navarasa - The Universe of Shared Emotions' and the BRICS Symphony, 'One Rhythm, Many Cultures', bringing together musicians from BRICS members and partner countries.
